Merry Christmas from Uganda

It was good to talk to all of you for sure. I pretty much told you all that was going on. I'm glad that you had a good Christmas with everyone. Christmas morning when we woke up I got dressed up as UKM (Uganda Kampala Mission) Clause and Delivered gifts to all the good little elders and sisters in Mukono District. haha.

We had a really good time. The shirt is a gift that we all got from President and Sister Chatfield. It has all of our names in a map of Africa on the back of it. Those suspenders got put to use after one year. haha. It was a good time.

The Gift

Hey Everyone,

The season is here again. From the pictures I've seen there is snow on the ground. Not here but that is OK. Enjoy it for me. haha. As I have thought about Christmas lately there is a certain picture that keeps coming into my head. It is a picture that we were shown a few weeks ago. It is of two people, a mother and a father, sitting on hay in a barn. In their arms they hold a new born babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Perhaps one of the greatest blessings of being so far away from home during this season, at least as a missionary, is you gain a new understanding on what is truly important. On what this season is really for. On what we should be celebrating. That is the true gift.

He is Jesus Christ,
He is our savior
He is our Lord.
He once died for us,
He once bled for us.
He has felt our pains,
He has felt our sorrows.
He knows our joy,
He knows our potential.
He has our salvation,
He wants our heart.
He now lives for us,
He now pleads us.
HE is The Gift!

I hope this season we can all stay focused on The Gift. I know Christ is the Son of God. He is our Savior. He loves us. He is there for us. He has given us EVERYTHING.  Let us give him some time for a change!  I love you all and I hope that you have a vary Marry Christmas.

Happy Thanksgiving from Uganda

We had a really good week as well. On Tuesday we were back in Lugazi for exchanges. I wasn't in my old area but was still able to see a couple people that I know. Friday we had MLC (mission leaders council) It was a awesome meeting. It is just all the zone leaders and president Chatfield. Man, he is a powerful guy. He never ceases to amaze me with the things he says. We set a mission baptismal goal for 2015 of 1275. We shouldn’t have much of a problem achieving that if everyone does the work that they are supposed to.

Well we didn't do much for Thanksgiving on Thursday... but that is only because of time and stuff. We destroyed some food on Sunday though. Elder Wightman and I teamed up and made the works. Chicken, deviled eggs, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and all other things. We even pulled out a homemade pumpkin pie. It was for sure a thanksgiving to remember. Mom, I hope you are proud. :)

It was fantastic. The sisters had been making fun of us because we burnt rice a few weeks ago but after this they said they would shut up haha.

As you can see the chickens were still kicking when we got them. It is all from scratch.

It was a good week I love you guys and hope everything is well.

Zone Conference & DLC

This week was good. On Thursday we had a Zone conference in Kampala. Elder Ellis came to speak to us. He is in the first quorum of the 70. He was a really powerful guy. It was cool.

We spent the rest of the day in the Hospital in Kampala. Me companion woke up last Tuesday with his leg hurting. By Thursday it was too much to bear.

We came back Friday and worked.

Saturday we met with all the district leaders is the zone and had a DLC (district leaders council). It was a really good meeting. The leaders here are powerful and for sure called of God.

Today again we spent almost all day in the hospital with my comp. They still aren't sure so we are staying in Kampala again so we can return tomorrow. All in all it's been a lot of driving.

As a Zone Leader there is a lot more to do yet still all the regular missionary duties. It's busy and tough but I’m enjoying it. I love the work that I have been called to do. I know that it is God's work. I know the church is true. I know we are God's children.

Have a good week all. Love ya.

Learning to Drive

The week was good here. I got to my area on Wednesday. I'm excited for it. It is a good place. My companion is great. We get along very well. The biggest problem was driving. It was like learning to drive all over again and the traffic and the roads here are terrible. It took me about a day to get used to it but we are doing good now. I didn't kill anyone so I think it was a success.

Friday we went to Kampala for a Mission Leaders Council (MLC). It is for the zone leaders only basically with President Chatfield. It was a really powerful meeting.

Saturday morning we had another meeting in Kampala that took most of the day and then we had to take books and stuff around to the different districts. We had a lot to do this week and even this coming week we have a lot to do. All is well though. I love it. I'm learning a lot and enjoying every minute of it.

Mukono Here I Come

The week was good on my side. We worked hard and are just trying to get people progressing. The hardest thing is to get people to come to church. The promise and promise then don't show. It would be better to just tell us straight up so that we can do what we need to change their mind.

We got transfer news today. I am going to Mukono (same Zone different district) to be a Zone leader. It sucks I’m going to miss the baptisms of those here but I guess there is something else for me to do.

Well I love you all. We are planning to get back on the email later but there is a huge storm the came in so the power might go out. We decided to come for a little time just in case.

Love you all.

Journal Entree

This week I am just going to share some of what my journal entree was like last night:

"I don't know. Honestly I don't know. Today I am just ready to go home. The stress has got me overwhelmed... I feel like I'm pulling a hundred thousand ton mountain that has a firmer foundation than the Lord can offer. Although, I know that all on these feelings are sent to blow me as the Jaredites (Ether 6:8). I know that the Lord is with me or at lest sees me. Even God withdrew his all from Jesus as he hung on the cross. Though he saw him and wanted to do all he could to save him, he had a plan that is perfect. If He would have intervened we all would have been lost. God loves me just as he loves His Only Begotten and he even loves me enough to allow me to go through a portion of what his Son went though. I'm finished but there is still a race to run, and so I run. And with faith we can move mountains."

Now before you all think I'm calling it quits, before you start to think that I am giving up I want you to think about what I am trying to convey. If you feel sorry for me, if you want to help me, I have one thing to say. Repent. God's plan is perfect. There are times that it seems like He is universes away but I testify that at those times we are next to some of the best and strongest people that have ever walked this earth. God loves us enough to let us go through challenges but as Paul tells us in 1st Corinthians, We will never be tried above what we are able. Alone we are dust but with Christ we cannot be defeated. If we get defeated it is our own fault. "The road may be long, With giants to fight" but giants can be fought and will be defeated. I week has been great. When we have trials that means we are progressing. That means God himself is making us all we can be.

I love you all. Enough to say I hope you have a challenging week.

Single Digits!

Well it sounds like a super busy week. I hope it was a good time. I'm glad to hear that everyone is doing well. Tell all the grandparents hi for me and that I love them. I am doing fine on all of those things. I should be good for the rest of my mission. It’s crazy to think that we are down to single digits for months left. I think you guys know better than I do just how much time is left. Time flies of that I testify.

Things are going well here. We had a baptism for a young man named Swabir yesterday. He is a great kid and was so excited to be baptized. We baptized his friend Brian on the 31st of August Yesterday he received the Aaronic Priesthood and then just about an hour later he was baptizing Swabir. It was really cool. This week another friend of theirs will also enter into the covenant of baptism.

Love you all and I hope another great week awaits you.

Another One Bites The Dust

This was a pretty good week. Another one bites the dust. This time not only another week but even the transfer. Today marks the start of another transfer in Lugazi. We got news this morning and Elder Bokwe and I are both staying here in Lugazi.

The week was a good week. Monday when we were playing soccer I rolled my ankle super bad. So much that I couldn't walk at all by Monday night. I went to bed pretty sure and disappointed that we would be staying home the next day. When I woke up I could walk fine with barely even a limp. Tender mercies and miracles of the Lord I would say.

The work was good the rest of the week. We met a lot of really good people as well. We had the husband of a family come with 2 of his children to church yesterday. The enjoyed it I think. We had a baptism yesterday for a young boy named Elly. He is a super humble and shy kid. His parents have been baptized over the past month or so and he was the last in his family that is able to be baptized. I think he might have a mental handicap but he is a great kid. He bore a powerful testimony after his baptism as well.

I've started to notice a few things as I write in my journal and review my journal now and then. One thing is that the Lord has given each of us many blessings. We all see miracles every day we just need to identify them. Imagine wehre we would all be if the Nephites didn't keep a journal or if Matthew wouldn't have kept a journal. we wouldn't be in this situation at this time. that's for sure.

Love you all and I hope you have a great week.

A Birthday to Remember

Hey everybody,

Well it has been a great week. to start out with I would just like to recognize my great parents for the love that they have shown to me in the form of a can of Nallys chili. All I need are some nice hot dogs and we would be reliving September of 2012, if only for one night. (shout out to Team Ramrod).

This week was a vary good but also vary humbling week. The peolpe here are just too good. We had some really powerful lessons with a couple of people. One was on Tuesday. we taugth the message of the restoration to an older guy named Joseph. I have taught the restoration hundreds of times but this time it was different. It was so clear that it was impossible to deny the spirit that was felt by everyone. Joseph is stubborn so it is hard to get him to act on the but even he said that he felt it was true.

Friday was my birthday and it was one to remember. A few of the recent converts and investigators that we have been teaching  thew a nice "surprise" party for me.

They had food and even gave me a gift. The two things that really got to me were these; one, I had only known these people for 9 days and they were willing to make me feel so welcome and give me this blessing when they don't ever really celebrate their own birthdays.

Two, They even got me a gift. Most of those that live here, these included, have next to nothing, Yet they were willing to give to me still. It was humbling to see the goodness of the hearts of everybody here. Here I am knowing I'm called to serve them and they insist on serving me.

Saturday we ended with a lesson with a guy named Derrick. We taught him the Plan of Salvation and in the end I spaced (stupor of thought maybe) that he has denied baptism a few times already, and I invited him to baptism. He said that he has already been baptized. Quickly a thought popped into my head of something Elder Bokwe shared with me a few days ago. A book he had said that when this happened to another guy he asked if the person would be baptized if they had not been baptized before. There was more that I had forgotten but I still decided to ask that question and hope it would work out for the best. After I asked it reminded Elder Bokwe and he remembered the rest. He asked Derrick to pray and ask God if Baptism was what God wanted him to do. As we knelt in prayer Derrick was a little hesitant but after an example or prayer from both Elder Bokwe and I he started to speak to our Heavenly Father. The spirit filled the room as soon as he started praying. At the end we asked him what he felt God wanted him to do. All Derrick said  in response was, "Be baptized."  That is the first time that I can remember that someone has received an answer through prayer as I was there. It was a huge testimony builder.

That night as we were heading to bed we got a call from Sister Oliver. She told us that an investigator who has been fighting sickness for many years had passed away. We were invited to his funeral on Sunday. As we were there they asked me to say a few words. Since I had never really met him I wasn't sure how it would go. As I stood to speak a profound love for Herbert came over me. Herbert was there with us still. With no doubt in my mind I spoke about the atonement of Christ and how its part of God's plan that we leave this life. I testified that Herbert new he was cleansed through the blood of Christ. I testify now that the Plan of Salvation is God's plan. I know that this work is the work of God. I know that Joseph Smith is called of God and the message of the Restoration is God's message.

I love you all and hope that you have a good week.

Back to Uganda

Well the transfer is over. This time I will be moving. I'm going back to Uganda. I leave Wednesday to go to Lugazi. It's hard to leave somewhere that you have been for 7 months. It's all in Gods plan though. The Lord needs me in another area for reasons that I don't yet know but I'm sure I will know soon enough. Love you all and hope you have a good week.

Another Baptism

Hey Guys,

How's life. things are going great here. It was another good week in Rwanda. Not too much too say but it was good. It actually rained once. It has been about 3 months since it rained but finally it rained for about 15 minutes. It hasn't been as hot for most of the week which i'm definately not complaining about. Yesterday was the baptism for Janvier (January).

He has been coming and learning for quite some time and he was so excited to be baptized. Freddy is the one in the purple shirt next to him. he is also learning and wants to be baptized. we are working on getting permission from his parents since he is under 18. Both of them are great guys and have become really good friends. I hope everything is going well at hope. Love you all and have a good week.

A Hug From Across the World

Before I share a message from Mom I wanted to share a new picture of Elder Buyers. We asked him to send us a good picture of him in his suit and I couldn't have been happier with the picture we got.

I was one very proud big sister when I saw this. Not only does he have the city of Kigali Rwanda behind him but if you look close you'll notice he has a flag pin for his home country {USA} and the two countries that he has come to love over the last year {Uganda & Rwanda}.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Buyers family has once again been so blessed by our loving Heavenly Father.

Just after Easter this past April, we received a text of a picture of Elder Buyers with Bre, another “Rigbyite”.  She is in Rwanda working with the Peace Cor.

Well, we were blessed to have Bre and her family over Monday night for dinner and talk about Rwanda and Elder Buyers.  Bre is home for a month and will be going back for one more year.  I was informed by Elder Buyers and Bre that she was bring me something from Elder Buyers.  After our hello’s when the Fitzgerald family got to our house, Bre asked me if I remembered that she was bringing me something from Elder Buyer, I replied “Yes”.  Then, she gave me a big, big hug.  She said that the hug was from Elder Buyers.  Not just his saying to give me a hug from him, it was literally a passed on hug.  After all the tears, I said “Wait, Eric isn’t supposed to be hugging girls.”  Bre laughed and said, “You are right”.  So, here is how she got my hug.  Bre is engaged to a Rwandan, so, Elder Buyers hugged Bre’s fiancé and he hugged Bre.  The hug was so big from Elder Buyers, that when Bre’s fiancé passed her the hug, his glasses broke.

That was the best gift a mom could ever get from her son thousands of miles away.  Eric knows how to put a smile on his moms face and warm my heart.

What a wonderful visit we had, learning about the area Elder Buyers is serving in and the people he has grown to love.

We asked Bre to tell us about the missionary Elder Buyers that she works with.  She told us what a wonderful sense of humor he has and with tears in her eyes, she said, “It’s amazing the amount of patience he has.  He has a great love of the people in Africa and loves to serve them.  He has a very strong testimony of the Gospel.  You can just feel it when he speaks.  Sometimes he doesn’t say much, but when he does, it is worth listening to.”

Bre filled our evening with all the joys and trials that she and the missionaries see and feel daily serving the Rwanda people.  This visit really helped us understand and feel a little closer to Elder Buyers and the work he is doing.

One trial that the missionaries have is communication.  Elder Buyers continues to learn the language and the Rwandans like to hear him and Bre speak English.  The missionaries also struggle with getting the member to church on time.  We tease here in the U.S. about the members running on “Mormon Standard Time” of 15 minutes late, well, try hours late.  On Sundays, the missionaries will be at the church waiting for hours for the members to show up.  But they are patient and just wait.  That’s not all, when the three hour block of church services are over and members are leaving, here come other members to church.  Wow, that defiantly would take patients.  Of course, the missionaries take the time to teach them.

Elder Buyers and the other missionaries usually will teach all three hours, because a lot of the leaders and teachers of the auxiliaries won’t show up for church.  He will give talks at the last minute in Sacrament and help with the sacrament itself, then step in to teach in Sunday school, Primary and Priesthood.  He has even taught in Relief Society.  He is not that shy little boy any more.

With the church being so new still in Rwanda, the members still have so much to learn.  I know in time, with the missionary’s diligence and example, the members in Rwanda will be great.

Because of Bre’s kindness, Elder Buyers will be receiving some long overdue shoes along with chili, spices for his food and shoe insoles.

What a great blessing Bre has been to us and Elder Buyers. The Lord does hear and answer prayers.

Of Bon Jovi and Burt Shirts

Hey Everybody,

In the great words of one who knows nothing of the subject, there is only on way to describe when you hit a year on mission...

WHOOAH, We're half way there
Livin' on a Prayer!

It truly is hard to think that it has been a year. It has been hard but rewarding, challenging but compelling.  I look back at what has happened over the last 12 months and am amazed. I'm amazed at the experiances that I have had, the people that I have met, the lives that I have touched and the people that have changed me forever. It has been a great ride and the thing is it's only half way over.  I kind of feel like Ammon on his journey mack to the land of Zarahemla when he says, "I do not boast in my own strength, nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God."  Perhaps one of the greatest lessons I have learned is that all is done as the Lord wants it done. Sometimes he makes us feel like we did something right but in the end it was his plan and he made it happen as it did.

One of the traditions of missionaries is to burn things at certain points of the mission. For one year it is a shirt, as you see.

A year has come and gone in the blink of an eye. I'm excited to see what the next year has in store. The only thing that worries me is that I will be home before I even shut my eyes to blink again.  Love you all have a good week.

Happy Hump Day Elder Buyers!

On this day one year ago we woke up with anxious hearts. We got ready saying silent prayers for strength and safe travels. We looked at a young man writing a note to his family but saw the chubby little boy who stole our hearts on an August day 18 years before.

Though no one mentioned it, we saw the tears in his eyes as he said good-bye to the puppy that he begged his parents to have for months before they finally gave in. Telling her to be a good girl and listen to Mom while he was gone.

Taking a final look around he hugged the younger of his big sisters and walked out the side door. The suitcases were already loaded, crazy how you can fit almost everything you'll need for two years into two big suitcases when you try hard enough and talk your Mother out of 80 bottles of vitamins. Loaded up in the truck we started our four hour drive to the MTC. A drive without music but filled with laughter.

The closer we got the more people who saw us knew that we weren't just a family with a kid in a suit. We were a family taking a missionary to start an amazing two year journey. People would ask where he was heading and we would laugh at the shocked faces when we answered "Uganda Africa".

After a quick meal and a mad dash to find an international calling card we found ourselves in a line with other families to drop off our missionary. We pulled up to the curb, did a last minute check to make sure he had everything while his fellow missionaries unloaded his bags, gave him a quick hug and watched as he walked away.

Elder Buyers - we love you and can't put into words the pride and joy that we have experienced over the last year as we have watched you grow through emails, letters, one phone call and one Skyping session. We've read about baptisms and the lives that you have touched, the animals you've seen and the lessons that you've learned. Your relationship with our Heavenly Father has grown and your testimony has strengthened. As a family we have received blessings and taken joy in hearing about your experiences. Keep up the good work!

"You've made it over the hump, now endure to the end."
-2 Nephi 31:20

Hey Goat!

Hey everyone,

I hope you enjoy the picture of this goat that I took this week. Goats are everywhere here.

This week was really good. We worked hard and had some fun. Everyone is going nuts for soccer here now because of the World Cup. Well even more nuts that they already are. Sometimes we will stop for a few minutes when we find a kid playing soccer on the street and play with him. Everyone stops to watch for a few minutes when they see a White man playing soccer. it's pretty funny. Not much to talk about but things are going well.

We got transfer news this morning and guess what?! I'm staying with Elder Melese. haha. That's three together now and 5 in this area. haha. yepp yepp.

love you guys. have a good week.

He took the clippers and went to town.

Hey everyone,

How are thing going for y'all. This week was pretty good for us just like the many before and the many to come. President Chatfield was here this weekend and we had interviews today. They went well.
For one of the highlights this week there has been a guy that we have been teaching for the past 5 months or longer. His name is Wilson. He is a great guy and has a great desire to follow the gospel and be baptized. The gospel has already changed his life. He is a solid guy. He was supposed to be baptized a long time ago but because of some issues he wasn't able to. Things finally got worked out this week and he will be more than ready for his baptism on the 29th of June. I am so excited. I hope that I will still be around to witness it but if I do get transferred at least I know that he made it.

Things are going well here and I hope it is the same on the other side of the world. :) Love ya and have a good week.

P.S. I got a hair cut a couple weeks ago and that guy did not mess around. He took the clippers and went to town.

Christ lived and died and lived again for all of us

Hey,

How is everyone. Well, I don't have much to say about the week. it went really well. It had it's fair share of challenges but overall it was a good week.
Grinding
Last night we were at the Palmer's(senior couples) house and they showed us the easter video that the church put out. Man, it is powerful. I hope all of you have seen it but if not the website is mormon.org/becauseofhim

Baptisms a few weeks ago
Christ lived and died and lived again for all of us. He suffered all for us. Not just pain but sorrow, guilt, fear, all, so that he may know perfectly how to help all of us and each of us. He knows each of us. He loves each of us. He is there for each of us and as we reach for his merciful arm he will grab our hand. This I know and testify.

Everything is going well. we walked a lot this week, we taught a lot this week and we learned a lot this week. Love you all. have a good week.

Happy Mother's Day & Skyping

Hello,

Another week done. This past week was great. On Monday after we emailed the whole zone went to Juru Park. It is a park here and that is where Elder Holland dedicated Rwanda for the preaching of the gospel. It was a really cool experience. Some of the things he mentioned in his prayer are already taking place. It's amazing to think that the Church has only been here for about 6 years and there have only been missionaries here for less than 2 years.

On Saturday and Sunday we were finally able to watch conference. Man those people are inspired. If I didn't know better I might say they were called of God or something. After watching it on Sunday we had some baptisms. Lise, Vital, Chantal, Damascene, and Damascene were all baptized. We have been teaching all of them for about 2 months. It's amazing to see the change that happens as people learn and accept the gospel. I never seize to be surprised by the way the Lord works with and through people to teach his children. After all of that we ended the week and the transfer with a nice dinner and a call home to the family for Mother's Day. It was a good week and I know there are many more coming.

As for transfers, nothing is changing for Rwanda. Elder Rollins was called to be a Zone leader but that is it. Nobody moved. Time to start number 8. Love you all and I hope you have a great week.

Elder E.E. Buyers

---------------------------------------------

As Elder Buyers mentioned we were able to Skype with him for the first time since he left for his mission almost a year ago. Though we had some technical difficulties and kept loosing connecting it was still amazing to be able to see him and hear his voice at the same time. Speaking of hearing his voice.... he's got a little bit of an accent!! It caught us a little off guard but it's so cool to hear him. We even got to hear him speak in the main language {other than English} that they speak. I don't want to bog down this post with a bunch of video, but here are two where he talks quite a bit.

In this video he is telling us about an experience he had a few weeks ago. It might be kind of hard to hear him because in order for me to be in on the Skype we had to do a Skype of the Skype if that makes sense.

This video is a little easier to hear because we had figured out that for whatever reason I had a better connect with him so he Skyped me and my parents were on the phone. He asked another Elder {I believe it is his companion but I'm not 100% sure} to tell us a story in their native language and then Elder Buyers translated for us {he says that he understands it better than he speaks it but he's getting better}.

Over all it was a pretty exciting day. He even got to see Avi, his dog :-)

A Wonderful Surprise

We received a wonderful surprise this week.  A native of Rigby, Breanne, is working with the Peace Core in Rwanda, Africa and attends the same Branch as Elder Buyers each weekend at church. Breanne sent this picture of herself with Elder Buyers to her parents here in Rigby.

Breanne’s mother has been searching for us since Easter, (all she had was Elder Buyers' name) and finally got our phone number from our dentist/neighbor.

Breanne lives in the small village of Rueli, Rwanda, that is a two hour bus ride to Kigali, where Elder Buyers lives and attends church.  She rides to Kigali every Saturday morning to work with the primary and mutual children on Saturday (she teaches them the Gospel and English) and attends church on Sunday.  She has been there almost a year and will be there for another year.

Breanne will be coming home for a short visit in July, and we are hoping to meet her and hear a little more about the area where Elder Buyers is serving, before she goes back.

Thank you Cindy Fitzgerald for working so diligently to find us!  We love you.

It Almost Makes It Easy

Hey Y'all,

How is everyone this week. My week was pretty good. nbgiza chane. I don't really have too much to say so I just attached the letter I sent to president. it was a good, successful week though.

President Chatfield,

This was another really good week. Yesterday we had interviews for 4 of the people that are having baptisms on the 11th. There are still two others that are being interviewed on Tuesday. All 4 of them did great with their interviews yesterday and are really excited for baptism. I love to see the change that people go through as they come closer to Heavenly Father. It makes everything worth it. It reminds me of my family the past couple of years and what the gospel has done for us to get me and my family to where we are today.

Yesterday we also met a really good family that shows some real interest in learning about the gospel. The District is doing well. Everyone is working hard and always looking for ways to improve and become the best they truly can be. Thanks.

Elder E.E. Buyers

The Lord is mindful of us all and loves us more than we know. Love you all and hope that you have a great week.

To Build A Ship

Hey Everyone,

This week has been really good. Things are moving right along.

A few days ago I was reading in First Nephi 18. and I ready vs. 1-2 saying how when they were building the ship they were commanded to build they "did not work the timbers after the manner which was learned by men, neither did they build the ship after the manner of men, but after the manner which the Lord had shown unto them."  For some reason this verse really stuck out to me. As we go through life there are 2 ways that we can live (build our ships): after the manner of the world (men) or after the manner which the Lord will show unto us. We don't know what would have happened had Nephi and his brothers built the ship after the manner they had known as men. I can guess they never would have made it to the Promised Land.  They would have been destroyed by the waves that over took them on their journey. Either way we can choose to take the path the Lord reveals to us or we can take the path the world says is right. We all want to make it to the promised land (eternal life in God's kingdom as families) it is up to us if you will build a ship strong enough to withstand the waves that Satan will send our way as we journey there. Food for thought.

I got an email from Elder Morley (my comp from transfer 4) today. This was a little bit that he put in just to keep me informed.
Ojok is a stud! Nice work with him man.  He is the Elders Quorum instructor and he is powerful! Bruno is also the 1st counselor in the Elders Quorum and the new night guard at the church ha.  You did wonderful things in the area and branch and I, the Lord, and the people here will forever be grateful.
The gospel WILL change people’s lives. They will be blessed with peace, love, joy, knowledge, opportunities to learn, anything and everything they can imagine. As it is learned the spirit comes into our lives and we will be led my God. (Mormon 5:17-18) As we follow him we are led by him. If not then we have no promise (D&C somewhere). "The study of true doctrine can change behavior (life) more than the study of behavior will change behavior."

The Church is true, the Gospel is pure, and God lives and loves us. This I know.

Love you all, Have a good week.

Happy Easter!

Hey Everyone,
This was a really good week. I don't really have much to say about it but it was just really good. For Easter we went to the senior couple's house for dinner. They take good care of us. the food was awesome. We also dyed eggs. It was kind of interesting dying brown eggs but we made do. We also watched more of conference. We were able to see most of priesthood session. WOW! that's all I'm going to say about it. It was really powerful.
As for the pictures. One is of Kivagutu. basically it is rotten milk. the stage between milk and yogurt. It's not too bad but they love it here. There is an investigator that gives it to us every time we teach him. haha.

The other is of me cooking. I figured nobody would believe it. I actually amaze myself on how good of food I can make. haha. not really but it’s still edible. Love you all and I hope things are going well.

Elder Buyers, District Leader

Hello everyone.
It has been another good week. The whole mourning week thing that was going on didn't hurt us as bad as we thought that it might. At time it even gave us a better opportunity. Everyone was so focused on their lost loved ones and we were able to came and tell them how they can see them and even live with them again.
Saturday we had a zone conference. I learned a lot and now we are just trying to put it to action. We talked about teaching a lesson in a minute. We were given a topic we had to introduce to someone and we only had a minute to introduce ourselves, introduce the topic, give a power statement, and extend a commitment. It was actually kind of hard. We also did this really interesting role play. We had four Elders that were teaching one person in a lesson. We could each only say one sentence at a time. It was really cool to see the unity that formed so fast and also how simple the doctrine was taught because we only had one sentence. It was cool.
Transfer news changed twice after emailing. I am still training but I was also called as district leader.
Other than that not much happened. Just the usual work. Love you all and hope you have a great week.
